Cullen claims OC Transpo doesn't have to do its job because its "Trying"...good for you!

So apparently Alex Cullen thinks that OC Transpo drivers shouldn't be required to do their jobs because the city is thinking about, at some point, maybe implementing a system to do the driver's work for them.

These militant OC drivers are so averse do doing any real work and it looks like as long as they've got their best bud Alex Cullen on the case they won't be required to lift a finger.

An automated stop calling system is ridiculous. How hard is it for the drivers to call out the stops. I don't really see why they are doing it in the first place, but if its required, they should just do it. Imagine I stop doing work at my job then, when questioned, I'm like "But Boss, I'm working on a humanoid robot that will be capable of completing these tasks for me!" would Alex Cullen come to my defence?

Alex Cullen's mismanagement of OC Transpo in his capacity as Chair of the Transit Committee knows no bounds. Why would we want someone as mayor of this city who can't seem to get OC Drivers to perform even the simplest of tasks?

  1. For your information, Alex Cullen does support the OC Transpo policy of having bus stops being called out by bus drivers. OC Transpo has been working to bring this policy into full force, and has succeeded in improving bus stop announcement performance by drivers to 80%, and is working on improving this further, through both re-inforcement and discipline.

However, it is not reasonable to expect 100% compliance, as the primary responsibilities of drivers is traffic management and passenger safety. That is why most large transit operators have moved to automated bus announcement systems, as this both assures 100% accuracy in calling-out bus stops (plus other features) and permits drivers to focus on traffic management and passenger safety.

How do I know Alex Cullen's position? Because I am Alex Cullen (alex.cullen@ottawa.ca; 580-2477).

  2. That's awesome!

Hey Alex, instead of wasting taxpayer's money (12 million or so) on automated stop calling systems, give me 20 bucks I'll go to Value Village and buy a tape recorder. We can have a few beers and record all the stops on some tapes! Problem solved.

Seriously though, I don't think you care about the Bay Ward. You don't support 'save the parkway' and you allowed OC Transpo to cancel the 50 and the 18 (which they replaced with the utterly useless 159...thanks alot). You actually said people were overreacting to the situation when the city proposed tearing up the parkway and that we were being selfish in not giving consideration to the people in Kanata. Who cares about them? You're supposed to be representing us.

P.S. Referring to yourself in thirdperson is just weak.

    Best of luck.
